ramen weekends....Shinjuko

Ok. Moving on with this mini ramen series. This time Shinjuko in Makati.

I have been to this place at least a couple of times long before I started this food photo blog. Just recently though, they have to renovate the place. I was patiently waiting for it to open again and was quite excited to see the changes they have made. And here's what they've done with the place....looks clean, well lighted as compared to the old setting.

But what about the food?

Ika Sugata Yaki - basically grilled squid. The squid is rightly cooked, tender enough and not rubbery. The taste, ordinary.

Mantan men - shoyu based ramen with crab sticks, shrimps, squid, pork and veggies. I asked the waiter of their best seller and she pointed this out. The seafood is cooked well...but the soup itself is a little thick for me. I like my soup clear and a bit watery. It's not the ramen, it's just me! I say you get what you paid for for this one.

Butakakuni - shoyu based ramen with veggies and tender pork. Yes the pork slices are indeed tender and succulent. I prefer this with rice! hehehe

The one thing that never fails me every time I visit Shinjuko is this - Gyoza! By far the best gyoza I have had! There's a bit of crunchiness with the exterior that I love. I can have this this everyday!

The next best thing would be another serving of it ;-)

The price? Can be a bit steep, but the servings are quite generous and good for sharing. Which is good so everyone can have a taste of what's on the table.

Shinjuko is definitely a contender of being one of the best ramen houses in Manila. There is more on the menu compared to other japenese restaurants around, there is definitely a positive vibe with the place after the renovation, the crew are courteous and the food is in no doubt tempting and delightful.

I am now having a predicament if I am to choose which one is the best for me. I am happy with Ramen Bar, but I guess I'll try another ramen house for my next post...suggestions anyone???

Shinjuko Ramen is located at 7853 Makati Ave. cor. Hercules St., Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines
