Tired and hungry after our visit to Forbidden City, and yet we decided to see the city streets by walking back to the apartment. While walking we pondered on what to eat, and glad we were when we took a turn to one of the smaller streets, we stumbled upon Sijiminfu.
We noticed there are foreigners inside and some sort of recognitions and awards posted by the entrance about their roasted duck. This must be a good place to eat.
And lo! We will be having roast duck (again) for lunch.
The Chinaware. The place looks decent enough for a pricey meal.
We were greeted by a chilled, sweet platter of mixed fruits. Using dry ice, it gave that smokey effect. I enjoyed more looking at it than eating the fruits. I thought this was brilliant, ingenious...
Some greens...yes we can!!!
One of the waiters knows how to speak English. So whenever we order or ask something, the other waiters call on him to translate. He was kind enough to show us how to prepare our food.
Practically the same menu from the previous meal! The pork is leaner this time though. Succulent and tender, it comes with a pancake-like sidings sliced into squares with black sesame seeds - not a fan of this one as I find the pancake a bit oily.
We ordered for a whole roast duck. But the waiter informed us that they've ran out of ducks for lunch. Only half a duck is available. It turns out, a reservation is highly suggested when you plan to eat roast duck in this restaurant.
Nodding, we told the waiter, "We'll take the half then".
Before they prepared the food for us, they showed us how big the duck is and if we are OK with it.
A bubble thought to myself: "Of course we are. We're hungry!"
The ingredients - neatly sliced and fresh. They still recommended the roast duck skin be eaten with raw sugar, as with the restaurant where we ate the previous day.
So we thought, maybe that's the way to eat it.
Makes me smile :-)
And oh, it wasn't that pricey as I've initially thought. For the service, ambiance and the food, you get what you paid for.
